About Revision Rhinoplasty Procedures

A number of patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their nose following rhinoplasty often experience self-esteem issues and feel helpless about the appearance of their whole face. This is why a number of plastic surgeons specialize in revision rhinoplasty surgery, and hold advanced training in correcting the aesthetics of the nose following primary nose surgery.

Top revision nose specialists are experienced board certified plastic surgeons who can identify the underlying cause of the nose surgery complications that may have occurred during primary surgery and plan an effective treatment that addresses the unique aesthetic concerns of each revisions surgery patient.

Aesthetic concerns following primary rhinoplasty differ from one patient to another and often affect the size, shape and width of the nose, making the nose appear unnatural and in some cases lead to breathing problems and excess scar tissue that can affect the function of the nose. Often, patients are concerned with more than one aspect of their previous surgery, which can make the revision procedure quite complex and requires the skills of an experienced surgeon who utilizes expertise, science, as well as art, when performing nose alternations.

Depending on each patient's individual needs and current situation, revision rhinoplasty surgeons may utilize the open or closed rhinoplasty technique. The closed rhinoplasty technique is the most common and treats cosmetic concerns, while the open method is more suitable for patients who require major nasal reconstruction to improve both the appearance and the function of the nose. In fact, revision nose surgery often does not differ from previous rhinoplasty procedure, although different surgical tools may be utilized. The recovery period is approximately one week and patients experience some swelling and/or bruising. Mild narcotics are often prescribed to alleviate any pain and/or discomfort. Although, most patients return to work a few days following surgery, the healing period may last anywhere from eight to 12 months.

Patients who are unsatisfied with the outcome of their previous nose surgery should contact a board-certified plastic surgeon who can help determine their revision rhinoplasty surgery candidacy.

To further improve the appearance of their whole face, many revision rhinoplasty patients undergo additional procedures, including facelift, brow lift and/or non-invasive, anti-aging cosmetic surgery treatments such as Botox, Juvederm or Dysport injections.
